Introduction to Nephrology

The chapter dedicated to nephrology opens up with an introduction to renal basics.
It includes the most important elements of anatomy, physiology and pharmacology
related to kidney as: nephron anatomy, nephron physiology, GFR, RPF, FF, clearance,
excretion and reabsorption fraction, juxtaglomerular apparatus, renin angiotensin
aldosterone system and the effects of NSAIDs and ACEIs/ ARBs on renal function.

My special thanks to the Department of Nephrology from Georgetown University
Hospital in Washington D.C., Dr. Mark Lipkowicz, Dr. Judit Gordon-Cappitelli, Dr. Wen
Shen, Dr. Serban Dragoi and of course Erica Tanner, MHA, Fellowship Program
Administrator and Dr. Mark Abi Nader who made this great experience possible.
I am deeply grateful to Dr. Brinder Kanda, Dr. Razvan Dadu and Dr. Dona Bugov for
making this happen.
